We wanted to give you some insights to cruising. The stages we are going to talk about are pre-cruise, excursions, cruising, and post cruise experience. Each segment will be completed and published.
As you all know cruising is the best bargain for the price. If you compare it to a land based vacation the cruise vacation comes out on top. During the number of years that we have been cruising we have heard it all as to why not to cruise. From motion sickness to fearing the ship will sink. Now I will tell you that we have never gotten motion sickness and we were in some pretty high seas. As a matter of fact the swells were 25 – 30 feet high. This was when we were returning from Aruba on the Celebrity Summit and a nor-easter was in the area. Just high winds and no rain so we did go outside to watch the ship ride the swells it was a fascinating time especially when they closed all the outside doors and wouldn’t let anyone out or in . We stayed outside for about 2 hours and had a good time.
So lets start with the pre-cruise. How do you find the right cruise for the right price. Do you use the booking engines out there such as Expedia or Orbits. Do you call the cruise line and book it directly through them. Do you think they will give you the information and the guidance that you are looking for in your decision. In all my years from listening to cruises most of them use a travel professional. Why do you ask well to begin with if you get the right one you have all the experience that they have and they are there for you if something goes wrong. Did you know that most of these services are free of charge. You don’t pay any more than on the online booking engines. Also if there are any amenities available you won’t get them with the booking engines. And you won’t get them if you book online with the cruise lines either. Your travel professional will be able to offer you amenities on most sailings. The price of the cruise is the same if you book online or with a travel professional. The cruise lines do not let you mark up or mark down the cruise price so everyone plays the same game. If you have a choice to use a travel professional you will make out better every time.
Ok now you have booked your cruise I do hope you opted for the travel insurance and again your travel professional will be able to fill you in on what to get and what protection you will have. Remember not all insurance plans are the same and they all offer you something different in the way of coverage. Do not think that you don’t need it because things happen and who is to say that it won’t happen to you. You don’t drive a car without insurance so why should you travel without it. Insurance plans that most people carry do not cover you if you are out of the country so if you think they do you better check it out. Do you know how much it costs to airlift you off of a cruise ship? How about 30 to 40 thousand and sometimes it is higher depending on the injury. I don’t think you would want to pay for that out of you own pocket at least I wouldn’t. Get insurance it’s inexpensive and can save you thousands.
There is so much that I can talk about with the pre-cruise but I just wanted to capture the highlights. If you have questions please e-mail me and I will be more than happy to answer them.
